As we approach the end of this quarter, I have reflected on my learning experiences. When thinking about my two most transformative learning experiences, I can't help but think about what I learned when creating my advocacy project about hummingbird mortality. Through this project I learned that one of the leading causes for hummingbird mortality is humans. We often want to attract these little creatures into our homes, but this can lead to their deaths. A fact that will stick with me is that, because windows reflect the blue sky, birds will think that they’re flying into it when in reality they’re actually met with a fatal collision against our windows. Another one of my transformative learning experiences include always citing sources and including page numbers immediately after using them. This is something I struggled with as I simply never wrote where I got my information from to be done with the assignment as soon as possible. I was forced to go back to all of my sources to add page numbers later on which ultimately took more time than if I had cited my sources in the first place. This leads me into one of my problems, time management. This quarter I decided to try to take 5 classes. While this was doable, I definitely struggled to get all of my assignments for this class turned in on time. I admit that I didn’t prioritize this class simply because it was online and not from my home campus UCSB. This quickly led to me falling behind and possibly performing underwhelmingly. I also had writing issues. I experienced writer’s block multiple times, especially in my advocacy project. I felt as though my paragraphs were repetitive and ineffective. Overall, I will definitely try to not enroll in as many classes as I did this quarter but if I do, I will definitely create a schedule to keep up with all of my deadlines. This will allow me to have more time to focus on one assignment at a time which could possibly cure my writer's block!
